Stone Lamp Niche From Jaisalmer - 19th Century
Hand-carved from the warm golden sandstone of Jaisalmer, this 19th-century three-way lamp niche once flanked a doorway in the desert city’s celebrated havelis. Designed to hold small oil lamps or candles, such niches illuminated entrances at dusk, casting a soft glow across intricately carved façades. This example features three elegant arched openings divided by slender carved columns, each crowned with stylised foliate detailing and framed within a simple geometric border — a refined balance of architectural structure and decorative craftsmanship.
The richly textured sandstone displays beautiful natural variation in tone, from honeyed ochres to soft sandy hues, enhancing the depth of the carving. The surface has developed a gentle patina over time, adding warmth and character to the piece. Striking with tea lights and equally decorative unlit, it can be displayed indoors or outdoors as an architectural wall feature.
Each panel is supplied with strong wall hangers and accompanying wall plates. For advice on installation, our expert team will be happy to assist.
