This wonderfully decorated manuscript box on stand (sadaik in Burmese) is decorated with majestic gold paintworkĀ and coloured glass. It is a made in the traditional Burmese style and likely from Mandalay. It is a mid 20th century (circa 1960) production of an earlier style. These chests were used in monasteries for storing religious manuscripts and scrolls from water damage and mice. They were also sometimes used in the households of wealthy officials.Ā 

The box separates from the stand and the lid removes to reveal an interior with a rust red colour.
