Porcelain Rouleau Vase - Five Peach Design
This reproduction Chinese porcelain vase with a five peach design follows a classic Famille Rose style. The origin of the five peach design can be found in the story of a fisherman by Tao Qian (365-427) who found endless bliss in a peach orchard hidden within a crevice.
Famille Rose was first seen in the Qing Dynasty (1644-1911). It injected colour into traditional ceramic work, namely shades of pink and carmine - introduced by European Jesuits who worked in the palace. The name 'Famille Roseā¬ā¢ translates from French into ā¬ĖRose Familyā¬ā¢. Common styles found are Rose Canton, Rose Mandarin and Rose Medallion.
Famille Rose has been incredibly popular in Europe and America since its introduction.
A similar vase was sold at Sotheby's Important Chinese Art sale in New York, 2018.
