Indian Painted House Shrine From Gujarat - 19th Century

Indian Painted House Shrine From Gujarat - 19th Century

This wonderfully carved shrine would have been set into a wall and used to house the family's favorite deity in a Hindu household.
Here a classic Mughal arch is flanked by two wonderfully carved pillars. Decoratively carved supports in the shape of women meet the bottom of the pillars where the shelf is located. Carved female musicians can be seen supporting the top level as well as the bottom shelf. The doors at the rear open outwards.

Today, these are often used as decorative shelves or places to display ornaments.

Wall fixtures can be supplied on request.
