Anatolian Konya Prayer Rug - Ca 80 yrs old 245 x 125 cm

Anatolian Konya Prayer Rug - Ca 80 yrs old 245 x 125 cm

Prayer rugs have been used primarily by Muslims for centuries to cover bare ground while partaking in daily prayers. The earliest known evidence of carpets being used in prayer come from the ʿAlāʾ al-Dīn Mosque of Konya in the 13th century. They're often made up of deep earthy colours and often include columns and geometric shapes in their design.

This particular rug is from around the 1940s and has been very well cared for. It's central design is the popular columns and arch motif bordered with complex geometric shapes.
