Painted Sideboard From Qinghai - 19th Century

A painted antique Chinese sideboard from Qinghai province with very well preserved high quality original painting. This piece is primarily painted with domestic and 'wise' objects. Delicate floral bordering adds a further decorative touch. 

Antique Chinese furniture from Qinghai province is well known for its exceptional painting, this style of paintwork is only surpassed in quality by Tibetan antique furniture. 

These sideboards were usually made from locally sourced wood, normally Elm, Pine, Poplar, or Cedar. They were originally used by nomadic people for the storage of clothes, bedding and grain. As well as storage, they were also used as altar cabinets for family ancestor worship.
