Vintage Blue Painted Sideboard From Shanxi - Ca 1930
A vintage painted sideboard from Northern Shanxi, made in the 1920's. This piece has original floral painting. This early 20th century sideboard is from the northern Shanxi province on the border of Mongolia. These cabinets were used by nomadic people in neighbouring Northern Shanxi province for storage of clothes and bedding or grain. This piece is likely from the Shanxi, Mongolia border area. They were also used as altar cabinets for family ancestor worship.
The front doors have been modified from the original closed front to make it more functional. Originally, these sideboards would have opened only from the top.
