Brass Bound Teak Military Chest -19th Century

Brass Bound Teak Military Chest -19th Century

This handsome 19th-century brass-bound Anglo-Indian military chest is crafted from beautifully patinated teak, retaining its original brass corner mounts, strapwork and recessed iron carrying handles. Its proportions make it an excellent candidate for use as a coffee table, while still offering the robust, practical character for which campaign furniture is admired.

Inside, the chest opens to a single large storage cavity accompanied by a candle box and a sturdy supporting chain that prevents the lid from overextending and straining the hinges. Military chests like this were made to order for officers of the British Indian Army and were designed to withstand the rigours of travel, handling and varied climates.
