Marble Bi on Iron Stand

Marble Bi on Iron Stand

In ancient times Stone or Marble Bi were considered symbols of good luck. They were found in China as early as the fifth millennium BC. Jade discs were found in tombs of the Hong Shan culture (about 3800-2700 BC), a practice which was continued by later Neolithic cultures.
The term bi is applied to wide discs with proportionately small central holes.
The discs were placed on or aligned with the body of the deceased. The true significance of these discs is not known, but they must have had an important ritual function as part of the burial.
Our stone bi are reproduction pieces carved and polished by hand in China
Approx. size including the stand.
