Reproduction Carved Marble Bodhisattva Torso - Tang Dynasty Style
A hand carved marble torso of a bodhisattva. This is a fine quality reproduction in the style of the Tang Dynasty (618 - 907AD) Guanyin - The Mother Goddess, who is standing on a lotus throne.
This is a classic example of Tang dynasty sculptural art in China which was heavily influenced by the Gupta period (320 - 647AD) in India. The pearl harness is a direct influence of this and Indian traditional garb.
Works of this nature marked a transition from rigid symmetrical art to a new interest in the human form.
Supplied on a contrasting black marble base.
A similar original example can be found at the Minneapolis Institute of Art.
