This solid teak wood 19th century Indian almirah cabinet is an excellent example of the Indo-Portuguese blend of styles. Incredibly stylish and timeless, the sunburst panels are typical of the Portuguese style and have been expertly carved.Ā
The core Portuguese occupation did not expand beyond Southern India, however, these cabinets can be found in Gujarat further north showing how trade and styles transcended regional borders.
It has the original carved lion's claw feet and carved regency style reeded pillars. The cabinet divides in two, a feature allowing for easier transportation. The top compartment is separated by a shelf while the lower also contains two drawers at the base.
