Gilt Black Lacquer Jewellery Cabinet - Early 19thC

This gilt black lacquer Chinese table cabinet was made for the Chinese export market was made for wealthy members of the British Georgian upper class in the Qing dynasty. This intricate and detailed work was made for export to Britain when Chinoiserie was all the rage in the early 19th century. Black lacquer export sewing kits and games boxes were also made. 

A mid-19th century Chinese export lacquer table cabinet, circa 1860Of rectangular form upon four bracket feet, two hinged doors below a twin scroll and scallop shell pediment. The exterior with gold lacquer scenes of figures with buildings and various floral decorative motifs, edged with Greek key. The interior with five long drawers with pull handles, decorated with floral sprays, the interior of doors with bamboo shoots.


Made for export to Britain in the early 19th century when Chinoiserie was all the rage.
