Gilt Chinese Black Lacquer Jewellery Cabinet - Early 19thC

This gilt black lacquer Chinese table cabinet was made for the Chinese export market was made for wealthy members of the British Georgian upper class in the Qing dynasty. This intricate and detailed work was made for export to Britain when Chinoiserie was all the rage in the early 19th century. Black lacquer export sewing kits and games boxes were also made. 

These pieces are a fragile piece of history and are usually found damaged. This jewellery cabinet has been checked over in our workshop and small restorations made to stop the aging process. The handles were originally ivory and whilst some original handles remain, some handles were missing and have been replaced with hand turned ivory substitute handles.


Made for export to Britain in the early 19th century when Chinoiserie was all the rage.
