Horses Woodblock Print By Wakyosai - Ca 1950

This Japanese woodblock print of a prancing horse is by the enigmatic Japanese woodblock print artist Wakyosai. Little is known about Wakyosai, but his style is similar to Yoshijiro Urushibara an early 20^th century woodblock artist specialising in horses. It is likely Wakyosai was a student of Urushibara or his pseudonym. 

 

There is a beautiful simplicity in Wakyosai's prints.  They're a great gift for any horse lover. Similar examples by Wakyosai can be found at The Art Institute Chicago.
