
Old Brass Vishnu Puja Bell From North India - Late 19thC
Bronze Puja Bell covered in Vishnu symbols dating from the late 19th century used while performing puja (Hindu prayers) all over India in both homes and in temples. With a beautifully worn patina on the handle it is clear this bell has had hundreds of years of constant use.
The symbols on the handle are the on one side, the conch (known as the 'pañcajanya'), one of the five weapons of Vishnu used to destroy all evil.
On the other side, a stylised lotus flower or Sudarshana Chakra can be seen which was another weapon of Lord Vishnu which protected against daemons.
