Red Elm Console Table From Shanxi - 19th Century
This antique Chinese console table comes from Shanxi provinceĀ in Northern China and was made during the Qing dynasty (1644 - 1912AD). It is constructed from southern elm (jumu), also known as zelkova or red elm which has distinctly more intricate wood grain in comparison to northern Chinese elm.
As well as a functional table, it also would have doubled as a desk. The narrow depth makes it perfect for a hallway or smaller room. It has beautifully classical Ming style hoof feet.Ā
