
Reproduction Korean Apothecary Cabinet - Ca 1970's
This is a reproduction of a traditional Korean apothecary cabinet. Traditional medicine was stored in this fabulous antique apothecary chest. It has the original painted drawer labels naming the various natural minerals and herbs that were mixed by the practitioner for each patient.
It has 53 small but long drawers as well as sliding doors at the top which reveal a long compartment space. At the bottom, seven larger drawers offer additional storage. An iconic piece that is fantastic for storing iconic curios. The front and drawer fronts are constructed from zelkova red elm and the frame and drawer interiors from paulownia wood.Â
The door interiors are covered in traditional Korean hanji paper made from the bark of the mulberry tree and printed with traditional Korean script.Â
