This highly decorativeĀ black lacquer Chinese chest on stand was made is was made for export to Europe. It dates to circa 1910 at the end of the Qing Dynasty (1644 - 1912) and has its original brass. This export work was inspired by the beautiful black lacquer works of art created in China during the early & mid Qing dynasty. One such example is a black lacquer gilt throne found in the Summer Palace.Ā

The paintwork is gold paint, rather than the giltwork found in earlier Qing dynasty examples and the brass hasp, staple and handles are of good quality. It has a dramatic red lacquered interior which is great for storage of seasonal items and photo albums.Ā

The stand and chest separate for easy moving and practicality.Ā Covered in black lacquer and complex floral and geometric pattern designs, this piece will make an excellent addition to any room.Ā Ā
